“Does anyone take flaxseed oil supplements? if so what are the benefits?”
Obviously I am aware that they are high in omega 3 oil, but what would this benefit to me?
I have heard that they are good for the skin also? Has anyone tried these? How many would you recommend taking?
Thanks

Omega 3s are good for the skin, brain and lots of other uses e.g. eyesight.
You should realise that flaxseed is high in an omega-3 called ‘alpha-linolenic-acid’ (ALA) which the body cannot synthesise, but which has to be converted by (low efficiency) metabolic pathways (which can be adversly affected by other factors) into the two Omega-3s Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) which ARE used by the body.
Research is continually coming out that for adults EPA-rich omega-3s are more beneficial than DHA-rich or ALA, so I would recommend good sources of DHA/EPA e.g. fish or fish-oil (NOT cod-liver oil) rather than flaxseed
I give it to my husband as it has prostate benefits – there’s a lot of prostate cancer in his family.
It also has lots of other benefits, but I can’t remember what they are offhand. I know it’s an excellent supplement though. Get googling to find out more about it.
They’re supposed to be good for brain function, but I find they help with my general well being energy levels.
I take flaxseed oil instead ofa fish oil for the omega three, however i have found that my skin feels and looks better. Also my nails are growing longer and stronger than ever before (probably because I’ve got a dishwasher and I’m not putting my hands in hot detergenty water) and my hair looks great. Take it and see, it won’t do you any harm. well, unless you are allergic to it.
Any omega 3 will be good for your skin. The oil has to go through a chemical change in your body to be good for your brain, unlike the omega 3 in fish oil, so the fish oil is more ‘efficient’ at this, but maybe you don’t want to take fish oil. Why not take the ground linseeds mixed with a smoothie or soups – then you get the benefit of omega three and the really beneficial fibre that is it the linseeds (a tablespoon or so a day will really perk up your system).
I was taking a tablespoon of oil every night when I was expecting my son for the omega 3 and I felt fine, but with all the hormones it was hard to notice if it was the oil!
Now I take 2 tablespoons of the ground seeds every day, with a green smoothie and I feel great – but my diet is good too. As far as capsules go you don’t get nearly as much as you would if you just take a big spoonful of oil but it doesn’t taste nice! I’d plump for ground seeds mixed in a smoothie.
Omega 3 modifies the inflammatory process so it may benefit you if you suffer from any condition involving inflammation, such as arthritis, eczema or hay fever. It’s also involved in sending signals between different parts of your body to regulate the menstrual cycle, so it can also help with that. Finally, it’s a bulk laxative, so it can be used to relieve constipation without being habit-forming, unlike stimulating laxatives like senna.
There’s no real limit to dosage as it can be treated as a food.
Flaxseeds have anti cancer benefits.. Helps women with breast cancer..Good for the heart, digestive, immune, and endocrine systems..I’ve been taking a product called frequensea, it’s frickin awesome…
There are many “bad” oils out there. When you look at the labels on many packaged foods you will find hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil. These are bad.
When a bad oil gets in your body it pretends it is a “good” oil (flaxseed, fish oil) and attaches to a cell just like a good oil would do except it doesn’t perform the actions a good oil would perform with the cell. In fact the bad oils can kill or injure the cells they attach to. If there are “good” oils present the cells will use them.
Just use the package directions. Good luck.
It is very high in Omega’s which is good for skin but is also a great way to promote a healthy circulatory system. People with high risk heart disease really benefit from flaxseed oil.
The recommended daily dosage (what I take also) is 1,000 mg per day (usually one softgel capsule).
